Organize Your Life Part 2

For this portion of my Organize Your Life series I want to talk about how you can organize your bathroom.

I am what you would call a product junkie. I have about 3 different brands of shampoo & conditioner in my shower at any given time. I use four products every morning to clean my teeth. Basically, I have a lot of “stuff” that could easily crowd my bathroom if I allowed it to. Luckily I have found ways to organize everything in a way that makes these products accessible when I need them but keeps them stored away so they’re not cluttering my sink.

Let’s start with the shower. I personally don’t organize the items in my shower in any specific way. This is probably the least organized spot in my bathroom. I do keep the products I tend to use the most closer to the front of my shower. If you don’t like having things strewn about your shower it is wise to invest in a caddy that goes over your shower head.

Next, it’s time to determine what items you use every morning to keep them within easy reach. I keep my toothpaste, toothbrush, moisturizer, floss and contact case & solution by my sink. Everything else I keep in my medicine cabinet or in small storage bins. I use one storage bin for all of my hair products/tools and keep this under my sink. I then use another storage bin to hold all of the miscellaneous products, such as extra razors, q-tips and sunless tanner.

A while ago I purchased a small storage structure to hold my makeup. I use the top drawer for face products, the middle one for eyes and the bottom one for lip products. I keep all of my everyday products in a makeup case that can easily be carried with me all day if I prefer.

Above is a photo of my storage shelf in my bathroom. The top shelf has one of the storage bins I was talking about with misc. items. The next shelf holds my makeup. The 3rd shelf down has my nail polish, makeup remover wipes, false nails, false eyelashes & random hair products. The next one has my makeup bag, makeup brushes & extra makeup bags. I keep a few magazines on hand just in case :)

This is the cute box that I store some of my nail polish in. I purchased it at Dollar General for only $2 so it was definitely a steal. I think it’s just so girly and fun!

Keeping your bathroom clean is probably the most important aspect to staying organized. I’m obsessed with Lysol Wipes. They’re just so easy to use and they get rid of everything. I keep those, a dustpan and small floor brush, Windex, toilet bowl cleaner, paper towels and shower cleaner underneath my sink at all times. I try to clean my bathroom at least once a week no matter how busy I am because there’s nothing I dislike more than a dirty sink top.

Organize Your Life Part 1

Organization is an extremely crucial skill to develop in order to keep your life running smoothly. Organizing your life can help keep stress at bay and when you’re less stressed you are able to enjoy each day a little bit more. When you’re organized you are able to keep your finances in order, eat better and simply accomplish more in general.

I personally must say I love to organize. Call me Type A. Call me OCD. Whatever you want to call it…writing lists and organizing things are two activities that make me happy. I guarantee if you follow my guidance you too can live a more organized life and get more accomplished than you ever thought possible. It’s all about being proactive and managing your time effectively. One last thing…I used to be a huge procrastinator up until last year so don’t think I was always so proactive. It is definitely a skill you have to develop and it all starts with baby steps.

Tip #1: Organize Your Bedroom

Keeping your room organized is probably the most important task you will want to stay on top of  every week. This includes keeping your clothes where they belong (hang things that need to be hung & fold clothes that you prefer in your dresser). Before you can even begin to keep your clothes in the right place it’s necessary to go through your wardrobe to get rid of what you don’t wear. I’ll admit I probably got rid of too many pieces in my closet but it’s only because they either didn’t fit me anymore or they just weren’t my style. If you’re like me your style has evolved over time. If there’s something in your wardrobe that you can’t justify wearing either try bringing it to a consignment shop, pass it down to someone else or throw it out. You will feel so much better knowing the clothes in your closet are actually things you want to wear. It also will make dressing for each day a bit easier.

Once you’ve determined what clothes you want to keep you can then decide what pieces you need in your wardrobe. You also can re-organize your closet and dresser to make it easier to find certain items.

When it comes to washing your clothes it is always good to pay attention to the care instructions on the tags of each item. I actually have two separate hampers. I intentionally separate my “colds” from my “warms” so I am never mixing them together. This allows for a much simpler laundry process.

I hate a cluttered room. This may not have been the case in college, but now it irks me to see anything on my floor. However, organized clutter isn’t as annoying for me. If you are finding it absolutely impossible to keep your room clean try your best to organize things in a way you’ll be able to find them.

Buying storage containers and drawers is always helpful in the journey to become organized. This will help you keep things where they belong. There’s honestly a storage solution for almost any object you can think of nowadays. Below is an example of how I organize my magazines.
